Tag/Day 11.1 auf der/on MSC FANTASIA in Civitavecchia, Italy

 border=0

Das netteste Kompliment war: "You are very good guests"!

Dort findet man Hertz.

https://www.atac.roma.it/index.asp?p=1&i=897&o=3&a=3&ci=55&tpg=2&lingua=ENG

https://www.trambusopen.com/index.cfm?Id=110

Rom Hauptbahnhof (Roma Terminini)
Rom Flughafen Fiumicino-Leonardo da Vinci

braucht.

The last full day begins, before we will soon from board.

Many passengers are preparing for the trip to Rome and had breakfast in their cabin. It is also the only cabin service, without additional cost.

The choice is very restricted. But we have the inestimable advantage: You can have simultaneously a bite, sip your tea and prepare yourself for Rome

However, since we no longer want to go to Rome, we go for regular breakfast and learn what Frittata is ...

... With salmon filled and between sandwich... Hmmm ...

As we come into the cabin, we will even not once going out for Civitavecchia.

But since it only "rains" in front of our balcony, we have found out that the master and officers are all doing their best to keep us on board and have no contact with the outside world and no more reporting. Therefore, they only have cleaning work on deck 15 in front of our balcony.

Joking aside, thus looked it during the day:

So we were very happy that we are not in Rome. And when we got the weather reports from the guests who were in Rome: that was good that did not go!!!

Some shops should be available opposite of the terminal. But none was open.

The area around does not invite anyone for a walk to the port gate.

You should get to this signpost if you want to use the shuttle. The first tip to find a WiFi-Hot-Spot which I am looking for.

Somehow we are waiting very long for the shuttle as they come very inregulary. For a ship as large as ours I think it is a weak performance.

Because they use in Civitavecchia the most outdated equipment the busses are not very nice and getting in and out is not very comfortable. Viva Malaga!!!

The still take us the fortress and you find information to get all terminals but our cruise terminal 25.

Irregular service.

First information how to get to Hertz are available asap but we booked and cancelled with Europcar...

If you get off you walk to the rear of the bus.

until you reach this sign and then left to the stairs upwards.

Just opposite is the yellow M for McDonald's. XXL-bags are taken back to the ship by the non-Italian crew: they cannot see any pasta anymore in their crew-canteen.

We go into the first spot. There is also Western Union money transfer available. So many crew members are here to send back money to their families.

A LAN-connection was set up in a former telephone booth.

60 minutes for 2.50 EUR, if you are crew member. They accept me as crew member. Somehow it can be advantage to look like the manager of the laundry department. Today I had no logo shirt but my lanyard with my cruise card around my neck.

By the way: the smallest package = 60 minutes on board are 25.00 EUR = 0.42 EUR/minuten.

The largest package = 370 minutes are 80.00 EUR = 0.22 EUR/minute on board.

We invited the crew to download their pictures or to send them by e-mail.

But we learned that many of them do not have in their home places an internet access. While I am uploading pictures Bruno looks for a photo shop and placed an order to print-out about 70 pictures which we can deliver personally to the crew members.

We add a sheet with our e-mail-addresses and links to this blog and use the occassion to thank them in their languages: English, French, Italian, Spanish, Indonesian, Ukrainian, Bulgarian and Hindi.

For those with small saleries we add some German chocolate to the pictures and our letter and deliver it to the crew members we know. They like the gesture and the nicest comment is: "You are very good guests"!

We are happy to do it this way: onboard it's 60 Cent per print - ashore 21 Cent and the kiosk is out of order again. So we have not again the afternoon entertainment walk between the reception desk at Deck 5 and photo shop at Deck 7.

The best way to the station is to follow the Hertz signs as they sponsor more signposts than Italian Railways. So you will not find so many signposts to the station but to Hertz.

The best is to walk along the Promenade.

You cannot miss the correct due to the huge number of signposts alongside the street.

When you see the arrow to Hertz it is the last chance to change the side of the street at Hotel de "La Ville" (vs. Hotel de Ville = city hall in French).

Here you find Hertz. They do not have the permission to enter the port area to deliver cars to the pier.

If you have not changed the side of the street at Hotel de "La Ville" you need to walk up the stairs.

In front of the station building there are cabs. For the worst case here is the phone number to pre-order from the ship or from the train to get one quickly.

In the station building the counters are open in the morning hours. You find information on BIRG-Tickets around:

https://www.atac.roma.it/index.asp?p=1&i=897&o=3&a=3&ci=55&tpg=2&lingua=ENG

BIRG stands for Biglietto Integrato Regionale Giornaliero.
It's a day pass for the 2nd class of the REGIONAL trains between Rome and Civitavecchia and valid until midnight also in the public transport of Rome.

Civitavecchia is located in zone 5. 2009 the price is 9.00 EUR.

IMPORTANT: Have a pen with you to add your personal details and do not forget to punch/validate/cancel the ticket before you board the train. Some of the yellow cancellation/validation box are located in the columns.

There is a special ad for ho-ho-bus-fans:

22.00 EUR for a return ticket to Rome + day pass on Ho-Ho-Bus 110:

https://www.trambusopen.com/index.cfm?Id=110

As already confirmed by other cruisers: you can also buy the tickets at the news/tobacco store on the right side of the ticket hall:

We cannot find any information if BIRG tickets are available with this self-service-machine.

We cannot make this machine "talking" English with us...

So as we find these additional information we think the machine cannot "talk" in English...

You find instructions if you need single tickets to

Rome Central Station (Roma Terminini)
Rome Airport Fiumicino-Leonardo da Vinci.

Something important: Track 1T stands for Tronchi. Right out of the station hall!!!

Before someone can ask if see anything from Civitavecchia but the train station and internet-café:

more or less everything is on the way from the internet-café to the train station...

As we never had lunch before in the buffet-restaurant and now only there to deliver some pictures to a waiter:
Now it looks like that water is available during lunch.

Bruno get a cream-of-mushroom-soup and says that it is better than in Le Bistro with NCL.

I take my tuna tartare (without knowing that I will have Tuna Carpaccio in the main dining room the same night - but it's too pity that you do not have access to the menu of the night on this ship during the day time).

Hmm... I tip and hand over the pictures and Bruno and Hans (Britt's husband) got Filet Mignon which was 1 1/2 of my size yesterday.

Bruno claimed the day before that I did not let him try. But it was too good.

Nothing to complaint with my duck.

I had again Tarte Titin, because I thought there was a mix-up the day before when Bruno ordered a pear-free desert. Now it is apple but nevertheless: apple or pear: it was great.

In the afternoon we browse again all over the ship. We discover things we have not seen before like this signpost:

In the Il Cappucino Bar you can find a translation of Cafe Shakerato: Ich try it. But it is not my world... somehow too sweet... For true sweathearts a true favourite.

Massimo passes his way. We have a common picture. I feel sorry because I was upset last night because his maîtres and me are disliking each other.

He has improved a lot since our first meeting:

1. You can have salad without further manipulation of the taste. It's great now.

2. You get other sorbets than lemon sorbets.

If I meet him again I will do it on the first night. He tells me that he is happy to hear some critics directly from a guest and he takes it seriously as he moves a lot.

So if you are unsatisfied ask for Massimo: tell him the facts in a polite way and tell him why. Give him proposals how you think they can improve the situation.

If there is no Massimo onboard: ask for the Food & Beverage Manager - that is a position which can move something.

Normaly you can also go through the representatives on board but they also care of noisy children, vibrations in staterooms etc. etc. and food is only one of the subjects. So maybe the information is not forwarded as quickly as it should be and with every meal your frustration increases. To avoid this situation you should contact the functions with the power to move something.

And again cheese for the beginning.

As there is no main course for me which I like I am upset on myself why I am not dining toniht in L'Étoile. So I choose a complete starter selection.

And orange-sorbet is available.

We go one more time to Cantina Toscana for a last espresso and to say ciao to a wonderful team there.

As some explained us now that Rome is also embarkation port we know that the Italians hold more than 1/6 of th ship and beverage packages need to be sold to the new guests.

We become witness of a very nice gesture:

Carlo Attivati is MSC's Wine-Consultant and will leave in Genoa. The crew explains us that they benefit from his knowledge and bid farewell with a present they collected for.

We revise our opinion on Italian managers: you have such and others: and who is honored from his own crew cannot be compared who is critisizing everything in front of passengers.

Svitlana checks the pictures which we took. She likes more the picture with out flash. We post both pictures and each of you can decide which is better.

We will miss the nice team.

Unfortunately here as well: it's a pity that they do not present the great food they offer and so nobody is there to stay for dinner.

By the way: MSC does not have a Future Cruise Consultant on board (why not???). But they have Svitlana: She told us of the beauty of her country and from a walk trough her woods with fresh air alongside of the Black Sea. She invites us to do a Black-Sea-cruise and gives us her e-mail-address: if our ship calls Odessa she would take us around what she told us about if she is not on the ship by herself. Can a cruise line have a better Future Cruise Consultant???

Since we do not want carry our duvees as hand luggage on land, we ask for the original bed arrangements.

We feel sympathy for the two guys: 1st season... and such sea movings. One night we were afraid that they escaped from the ship when the movings were extremely, but they appeared brave for their service.

Even before midnight, our luggage are disposed from the gangways.

One last time we are going to bed.
