Tag/Day 2 auf der/on MSC MERAVIGLIA in Neapel/Naples, Italy

Heute Morgen gucke ich mich auf Deck 19 um: das Sonnendeck des Yacht Clubs.



This morning I was checking the Deck 19: the sundeck of the Yacht Club.

Somehow a little stupid: it was breezy, and the rain went through because it was not fully closed. And when you had full sunshine?



Irgendwie ein wenig blöd: es zieht und regnet durch, weil es nicht geschlossen ist. Und bei strahlendem Sonnenschein?

Ein kleiner Pool ist auch hier oben, aber auch der wird erst um 07:00 Uhr geöffnet.



A small pool was here too but it was open at 07:00 hrs.

And so it looked during the daytime.



Und so sieht es tagsüber aus.

Hier sieht man es gut, wie sehr es durchzieht.



Here you could easily see how the wind went through.

In the Yacht Club, they had a front desk of their own with our concierges: Filippo di Bitetto and Josiene Marques. A really great service. They even had rain ponchos when we had rain. A Swarovski-stairway took us from Deck 16 to Deck 18 (no Deck 17 available!). Behind our cabin, on our Deck 14 next to the elevator a service gangway took to this part. That was why it was somehow always noisy.



Im Yacht Club gibt es eine eigene Rezeption mit unseren Concierges: Filippo di Bitetto und Josiene Marques. Ein wirklich toller Service. Es gibt sogar Regenponchos, wenn es regnet. Eine Swarovski-Treppe führt vom Deck 16 zum Deck 18 (Deck 17 gibt es nicht!). Auf unserem Deck 14 führt quasi hinter unsere Kabine neben dem Fahrstuhl zu einem Dienstgang. Deswegen ist es immer so laut.

Das offene Deck finde ich nachts äußerst "sexy"!

The sports area with a great offer: a particular highlight was a flight simulator. In the gym, you still were only limited to use the devices for just 20 minutes.



Der Sportbereich mit einem tollen Angebot: ein besonderes Highlight ist ein Flugsimulator. Im Fitness-Center darf man nach wie vor jedes Gerät nur 20 Minuten am Stück nutzen.

Ein Bereich ist nur für Erwachsene reserviert: Sky Lounge.

Die Außenbereiche am Heck: Fast wie auf der NORWEGIAN GETAWAY 2017. Nur der VYBE ist doch besser als Top 19 Exclusive Solarium. Erinnert mehr an den VIP-Bereich auf der COSTA FAVOLOSA 2017. Aber es kostet ja auch nicht so viel.



The outdoor areas at the aft: It was about like on NORWEGIAN GETAWAY 2017. Only VYBE was better than Top 19 Exclusive Solarium. Reminded more to the VIP area on COSTA FAVOLOSA 2017. But it was not much pricy.

A walk on the upper promenade took us along the Kaito Sushi- and Tempura-Restaurant and TV Studio and Bar.

Es geht zum Frühstück ins Yacht Club Restaurant. Hier gibt es OHNE NACHFRAGE Butter (Hinweis für alle diejenigen, die zum Frühstück lieber Olivenöl nehmen, weil es ja italienischer ist...) - abgepackt von Meggle. Meine Reise ist schon gerettet nach dem ich jeden Morgen nach Butter auf der COSTA FAVOLOSA 2017 fragen musste. Es gibt ein kleines Büffet. Ich werde generell auf das Büffet aufmerksam gemacht, aber ich bekomme ohne Diskussion auch alles serviert, was dort auslegt. Bruno ist daher mit seinen Beeren und dem Naturjoghurt hoch zufrieden. Auch gibt es hartgekochte Eier einzeln. Nur beim Omelette ist man nicht in der Lage mir ein kleineres zu machen. Eine Frage, die ich zuvor auf der NORWEGIAN GETAWAY 2017 hatte, wird hier beantwortet: Die Marmelade von Menz & Gasser wird leider auch mit Maissirup hergestellt. Sie haben für mich einen Originalkarton geholt, damit ich mal gucken kann. Mit Ajay Moorut haben wir einen ganz tollen Kellner: so wie ich es liebe: freundlich, unaufdringlich, aufmerksam, zügig. Es stimmt einfach alles!!!



We headed for breakfast to the Yacht Club Restaurant. Here you had WITHOUT ASKING butter (just an advise who like it more Italian with olive oil for breakfast...) - packed of Meggle - a German brand. My voyage was rescued after I had to ask every morning for butter on COSTA FAVOLOSA 2017. They had a small buffet. I was attracted generally to the buffet, but without any discussion, they served everything that was only at the buffet. So Bruno was happy with his berries and his natural yogurt. Even they had single hard-boiled eggs. Only with the omelet, they were unable to prepare a smaller one. A question I had before on NORWEGIAN GETAWAY 2017 was responded here: the jam of Menz & Gasser was made of corn syrup too. They get an original box for me that I could check. By having a waiter like Ajay Moorut, we had an excellent waiter: exactly the way I love it: friendly, decent, attentive, fast. Everything was perfect!!!

We left our oasis to check what they had for breakfast in the self-service restaurant.

Unsere Betten wurden getrennt. Trotzdem kann ich nicht gut schlafen. Es ist mir zu weich. Kurzerhand bietet man mir an, eine Softauflage heute Abend zu entfernen, damit ich härter liege.



Our beds were separated. But still, I could not sleep well. It was too soft for me. Shortly they offered me to remove the soft cover that night that I could sleep a little harder.

Again our team for our cabin. Our butler Adi Sucipta I Wayan and cabin attendant I Gusti Ngurah Indraw - now together on one picture. Our steward was transferred after our voyage to the brand new MSC SEASIDE.

Die Top Sail Lounge gefällt uns immer besser: die ganzen Leckerlis, die es am Tag gibt. Die Getränkeauswahl: Chinotto von Lurisia aus der Slow Food-Bewegung? Sind wir wirklich bei MSC? Mir wird von Anzhela Shcherbakova FAST jeder Wunsch von den Augen abgelesen und erfüllt... Nur schaffe ich es nicht ukrainische Soljanka richtig in meine Augen zu projezieren, damit mir Anzhela diesen Wunsch erfüllt... Eine ukrainische Soljanka von einer Ukrainerin gekocht, dass wäre doch ein tolles Angebot! Auch am Abend die Klaviermusik. Hier wäre ein wenig mehr Abwechslung schön, wenn immer mal andere Künstler hier auftreten würden.



More and more we loved the Top Sail Lounge: all the little goodies you had all the day. The selection of beverages: Chinotto of Lurisia from the slow-food movement? Were we really with MSC? Anzhela Shcherbakova read MORE OR LESS every wish from my eyes... Only the projection of Ukrainian Soljanka soup into my eyes did not work properly that Anzhela could serve me too... A Ukrainian Soljanka prepared from a Ukrainian would be a great offer! Also the piano music in the night. A little more variation would be nice with a more full rotation of the musicians.

Arriving in Naples, Italy. Like then on MSC MUSICA 2007: it was raining dogs and cats. No need to leave the ship immediately.

Im Hafen ist bereits die RIVIERA. Als sie abends rausfährt, sieht man, dass Teile der Bordbeleuchtung ausgefallen ist.



In the port RIVIERA was already there. When she set sail the night, you could see that part of the lights on board did not work.

Unfortunately, my plan could not work: I could not meet my friends on my most favorite ship NORWEGIAN SPIRIT: they did not dock at Stazione Marittima. But anyhow in Messina, Italy, we should dock together. In Valletta, Malta she might be berthing somewhere else too.



Leider geht mein Plan nicht auf: ich kann meine Freunde auf meinem Lieblingsschiff NORWEGIAN SPIRIT nicht besuchen: sie liegt nicht direkt an der Stazione Marittima. Aber in Messina liegen wir auf jeden Fall zusammen. In Valletta könnte sie auch evtl. woanders liegen.

Ein Blick ins SB-Restaurant, um zu sehen, was es mittags gibt: Kaum ein Unterschied zu den Amerikanern. Die Mozzarella-Station habe ich leider nie in Betrieb gesehen. Für Softeis muss leider auch bezahlt werden.



A look into the self-service restaurant to see what they had for lunch: no major difference to the Americans. I never had a chance to see the Mozzarella-Station in operation. Unfortunately, you had to pay for soft-ice too.

They also had an English pub with pub food. But to had to pay for it compared to Princess or Cunard.



Es gibt auch einen englischen Pub mit Pub-Essen. Das ist allerdings zuzahlungspflichtig im Gegensatz zu Princess oder Cunard.

Mittags geht es wieder in das Yacht Club Restaurant zum Essen. Erstmalig erleben wir bei Costa und MSC, dass wir als Nicht-Italiener auch vom zuständigen italiensichen Maître betreut werden: Giuseppe di Nardo. Nur: auf den früheren Fahrten hätte ich mich über eine Gelegenheit gefreut, dem Maître zu erzählen, wie furchtbar es ist. Aber hier gibt es nur sehr wenige Gründe dafür. Gut das Kalbskotelette ist ein wenig zu dünn für meinen Geschmack und hätte ruhig noch 1-2 Minuten auf Küchenkrepp zum Abtropfen liegen können, aber das sind so Nebensächlichkeiten.



Again we went for lunch to the Yacht Club Restaurant. It was the first time with Costa and MSC that we experienced that the Italian Maître in charge took care of Non-Italian guests: Giuseppe di Nardo. But: on previous voyages, I really liked to have an occasion to tell the Maître how terrible everyone was. But I did not have so many reasons for that. Well, the veal cutlet was a little thin for my taste and might stay on kitchen paper for another 1-2 minutes to drain off the oil. But those were minors.

COSTA FASCINOSA was the third in the bunch who arrived very late and left after us from Naples. She became our stalker for the rest of the cruise.



COSTA FASCINOSA ist die dritte im Bund, die allerdings sehr spät erst reinkommt und nach uns Neapel verlässt. Sie wird unsere Stalkerin für den Rest der Reise.

Not even the Englishmen who usually loved to have liquid sunshine stayed here on the sun deck.



Nicht mal die Briten, die sich ja sogar über flüssige Sonne freuen, bleiben hier auf dem Sonnendeck.

Wozu haben sie sich eigentlich die Mühe gemacht, alles so ordentlich aufzustellen.



Why did they take the effort to place everything so properly.

To my surprise: no contact number of the port agent was published but the expensive satellite number of the ship.



Zu meinem Erstaunen: es wird keine Kontaktnummer des Hafenagenten veröffentlicht, sondern die teure Satelittentelefonnummer des Schiffes.

Um 19:00 Uhr müssen wir wieder zurück sein.

Again all of us need to pass the eye of the needle.



Wieder müssen alle durch das Nadelöhr raus.

Die Straßenbahn zum Bahnhof Garabaldi fährt wohl nicht mehr. Lt. ANM Homepage ist der komplette Straßenbahnverkehr zeitweise eingestellt.



It did not look like that the tram to Garibaldi station was still operating. According to the ANM Homepage the service was suspended temporary.

We checked the board with the taxi fares, but none in the port was willing to take us for the published rates. They only offered us tours.



Wir sehen uns die Tafel mit den Taxipreisen an, aber direkt am Hafen ist niemand bereit, uns zum Taxitarif zu fahren. Man bietet uns nur Touren.

Aber auf der Höhe der Straßenbahnhaltestelle vor dem Hafen finden wir doch ein Taxi, das uns zum offiziellen Taxitarif fahren will.



But on the altitude of the tram stop in front of the port, we found a taxi who was willing to give us a ride for the taxi tariff.

Now we can study the tariff without pressure.



Nun endlich können wir den Tarif ohne Druck lesen.

Eigentlich gibt es ja einen Festpreis zu unserem Ziel. Wir zahlen ca. 5,00 EUR mehr nach Taximeter. Allerdings erleben wir auch eine tolle Fahrt, die man schon als Panorama-Stadtrundfahrt fast bezeichnenen könnte.



Actually there was a flat rate to our destination. We paid around 5.00 EUR more by the meter. But experienced a great tour which you could call a panoramic tour.

We were happy to arrive. The view over Mount Vesuv and on the city compensated. In the Arx Café, we pampered ourselves with an Espresso and a Sfogliatelle.



Hauptsache angekommen. Der Blick zum Vesuv und über die Stadt entschädigt. Im Arx Café gönnen wir uns erstmal einen Espresso und ein Sfogliatelle.

Zunächst gehen wir in die Kartause (Kloster des Kartäuserordens) und Museum San Martino. Leider ist derzeit der Garten zur Hafenseite gesperrt, so dass wir ein wenig Pech haben. Trotzdem gibt es hier viel schönes zu sehen: nur leider kaum Kreuzfahrtschiffe.



First we went to the Chartreuse (Monestry of the Carthusian Order and Museum San Martino. Unfortunately, the garden facing to the port side was closed, so we were a little unlucky. Anyhow many beautiful things were to discover: but not so many cruise ships.

So we had to go again to the Fortress Sant'Elmo. It was not a quick visit. The elevator was not working so we had to walk on a very long ramp which took us above, and it looked like it would rain again. So we had to walk upwards. But from here we enjoyed the beautiful view.



Also müssen wir doch wieder nochmals zur Festung Sant'Elmo. Aus einem schnellen Besuch wird nichts. Der Fahrstuhl ist defekt. Man muss außen über sehr lang gezogene Rampe hinauf laufen und es sieht wieder nach Regen aus. Also müssen wir hoch laufen. Aber von hier haben wir wieder eine tolle Aussicht.

Von hier oben sehen wir die Schiffe im Hafen.

By Montesanto Cable Car we went down the city. Unfortunately they sold us only tickets for single rides and no ticket which allowed a transfer: 1.10 EUR (2017)



Mit der Standseilbahn Montesanto geht es wieder runter in die Stadt. Leider wird uns nur eine Einzelfahrt verkauft und nicht eine Karte, die zum Umstieg berechtigt: 1,10 EUR (2017).

In Montesanto kommen wir an. Das scheint das historische Zentrum von Neapel zu sein. Kein weiterer Tourist weit und breit zu sehen. Wir kommen uns sehr verloren vor. Ich kann nicht sagen, dass ich mich sehr sicher hier fühle. Tolle kleine Geschäfte. Weniger toll: die Beschilderung, um eine U-Bahn zu finden. Wir müssen nachfragen, und jemand ist so nett, uns zu einer Straße zu führen, die wir nie gefunden hätten und uns den Weg das Gebäude zu zeigen. Durch die extrem hohen Häuserschluchten in den engen Gassen kommt die Navigationsfunktion unseres iPhones nicht so klar, dass wir auf Anhieb wissen, wohin wir müssen.



We arrived in Montesanto. It looked like a part of the historic center of Naples. No other tourist was around. We felt somehow very lost. I was not sure if I felt really safe here. Great little stores. Less great: the signposts to find the access to the Metro. We had to ask, and someone was so kind to escort us to a street which we would never found ourselves and which should take us straight to the building. Due to the high buildings in the narrow lanes, our GPS of our iPhones did not work properly that we knew immediately where we need to go.

We would never found this metro station: Montesanto of Trenitalia. This line was named as Metroline 2. But there were regional trains which did not go in fixed frequency like we knew from other subways. As we thought that we had valid tickets we just joined. We saw that we could have a transfer at Piazza Cavour for Metro line 1 without staying to Garibaldi station. To find the right platform you need to know first that you need to go towards Gianturco. No phone signal and no network information at the stop made orientation somehow difficult. It was not very pleasant: it was quite humid and warm in the tunnel and in the train it was not very nice either.



Diesen U-Bahnhof hätten wir nie gefunden: Montesanto von Trenitalia. Diese Bahn wird als Metrolinie 2 bezeichnet. Es sind jedoch Regionalzüge, die nicht in einem Takt fahren, die wir von den anderen U-Bahn-Linien her kennen. Da wir annehmen, dass wir gültige Tickets haben, fahren wir mit. Wir sehen, dass bereits eine Umsteigemöglichkeit am Piazza Cavour zur Metrolinie 1 besteht, ohne dass wir bis zum Bahnhof Garabaldi fahren müssen. Um den richtigen Bahnsteig zu finden, muss man zunächst wissen, dass wir in Richtung Gianturco fahren müssen. Ohne Telefonsignal und Netzwerk-Informationen im Bahnhof ist es doch sehr schwierig sich zu orientieren. Angenehm ist es nicht: es ist im Tunnel ziemlich schwül und warm und im Zug ist es auch nicht angenehm.

Man muss allerdings zum U-Bahnhof Museo laufen, um hier mit der Metrolinie 1 weiter nach Municipio weiterzufahren. Hier stellen wir fest: unsere Karten gelten hier gar nicht mehr. Wir müssen neue Fahrkarten kaufen. Wir hätten von Anfang an ein Ticket Integrato für 90 Minuten für 1,60 EUR (2017) kaufen sollen.



You need to walk over to the metrostation Museo to connect to Metroline 1 to head to Municipio. Here we found out that our tickets were not valid anymore. We need to buy new tickets. We should buy from our start a Ticket Integrato for 90 minutes for 1.60 EUR (2017).

We withdrew the visit of a Pizzeria and went quickly back to the cruise terminal.



Auf einen Besuch in einer Pizzeria verzichten wir und gehen direkt ins Kreuzfahrtterminal.

Einen eigenen Zugang für Yacht-Club-Gäste gibt es hier nicht. Im Gegenteil, wir werden kurzerhand durch den unteren Ausgang zurück auf das Schiff geführt, der eigentlich für die Crew vorbehalten ist, aber eben einen größeren Umweg und viele Stufen bedeuten.



No extra access for Yacht Club guests available. It was just opposite as we were sent back to the ship through the lower access which was reserved for the crew which meant a major deviation and many many stairs.

Kurz mal zum SB-Restaurant, um zu sehen, was hier zum Abendessen geboten wird.

Draußen ist es etwas unruhig. Ich finde es harmlos.



Outside it was a little unsteady. I found it was harmless.

I wanted to go up. On the one side, it was impossible since the elevator was blocked and I need to see the other hand. With Holland America, the guest would have the priority... The lifts on the two different sides were not connected. To get the next one you need to push on both sides.



Ich will rauf. Auf der Seite geht es nicht, da der Fahrstuhl blockiert ist. Ich muss auf die gegenüberliegende Seite. Bei Holland America hätte jetzt der Gast den Vorrang...Die Fahrstühle gegenüber sind nicht zusammengeschaltet. Um den nächsten zu bekommen, muss man eben auf beiden Seiten drücken.

Sollen wir einen Pass kaufen? Wir haben eigentlich durch die Black-Mitgliedschaft auch ein Guthaben für eine Stunde, aber irgendwie schaffen wir es doch nicht. Ich habe es schlicht und einfach vergessen. Man muss nicht immer alles mitnehmen, auch wenn man es kostenlos bekommt. Zu Hause lese ich keine Zeitung aus Papier. Warum sollte ich es hier tun, weil es umsonst ist?



Should we also buy a pass? Du to our Black Membership we should have a credit for one hour, but somehow we could not make it. I just simply forget about it. No need to use everything you get offered even it is included. At home, I do not read a newspaper made of paper. Why should I do it here?
