Tag/Day 0B.1 auf dem Weg zur/on the way to MSC SEASIDE in Civitavecchia, Italy

Ich wache morgens auf und freue mich wieder auf den Anblick der Schiffe. So lange Abstinenz von Kreuzfahrtschiffen. Und die COSTA FORTUNA setzt im Laufe des Tages um und abends liegt schön beleuchtet am Pier.



I wake up in the morning and look forward to seeing the ships again —so long abstinence from cruise ships. And COSTA FORTUNA moves during the day and in the evening is beautifully illuminated on the pier.

CARNIVAL VALOR hat sich für mich in eine bessere Position gebracht.

COSTA SMERALDA comes in in the morning. However, I have to go back for breakfast - so, unfortunately, I am not waiting to see if she docks at the new Americo Vespucci terminal. But later, I can still see that she put on after all. But if I had known what was for breakfast, I would have stayed longer.



Morgens kommt die COSTA SMERALDA rein. Ich muss allerdings zum Frühstück zurück - deswegen warte ich leider nicht ab, ob sie am neuen Americo Vespucci-Terminal anlegt. Später kann ich aber noch sehen, dass sie doch angelegt hat. Hätte ich aber gewusst, was es zum Frühstück gibt, wäre ich wohl länger geblieben.

It is a shame - the former PACIFIC PRINCESS was a reasonably affordable way to discover the South Seas.



Schade - die ehemalige PACIFIC PRINCESS war eine halbwegs bezahlbare Möglichkeit die Südsee zu entdecken.

Ich habe mir immer Gedanken gemacht, wie ich mit meinen Miles and More-Meilen nach Papeete komme.

Now the former R ONE, R TWO, R FOUR, R FIVE are with Oceania (INSIGNIA, REGATTA, SIRENA, and NAUTICA).



Nun sind die ehemaligen R ONE, R TWO, R FOUR, R FIVE bei Oceania (INSIGNIA, REGATTA, SIRENA und NAUTICA).

Und die anderen vier R THREE, R SIX, R SEVEN, R EIGHT bei Azamara (AZAMARA ONWARD, AZAMARA JOURNEY, AZAMARA QUEST, AZAMARA PURSUIT 2019).

Ich hoffe auf morgen, wenn ich ins Terminal und auf der MSC SEASIDE einschiffen kann.

Lange ist es her, dass wir auf der MSC FANTASIA 2009 waren.

Und zurück ins Hotel zum Frühstück.

There is a breakfast buffet here, but you are not allowed to help yourself.



Hier gibt es ein Frühstücksbüffet, bei dem man sich nicht selbst bedienen darf.

Aber Italien - Frühstück - ich - Frühstücksmuffel: das geht irgendwie nicht unter einem Hut.



But Italy - breakfast - me - breakfast grouch: somehow that doesn't work under one roof.

In my desperation, I end up with a croissant that is totally sweet and full of vanilla cream. I go into the new day very well strengthened with a lot of energy.



Ich ende in meiner Verzweiflung an einem Croissant, das total süß und voll mit einer Vanillecreme ist. Auf jeden gehe ich sehr gut gestärkt mit viel Energie in den neuen Tag.

Als Ausländer wird man sehr gerne auf die SB-Instant-Kaffeemaschine verwiesen. Wenn man aber freundlich nachfragt, bekommt man auch einen Cappuccino aus einer Baristamaschine aus der Küche.



As a foreigner, people are pleased to refer to the self-service instant coffee machine. But if you ask in a friendly manner, you can also get a cappuccino from a barista machine in the kitchen.

Within two minutes, we will reach the Civitavecchia train station. We can even see the hotel from the platform. You have to book seats in advance for the regional trains. Tickets are not sold indefinitely. I reserve the tickets via the Trenitalia app. However, you do not have to validate these cards, although there is a scanner for barcodes on the validator.



Innerhalb von zwei Minuten erreichen wir den Bahnhof Civitavecchia. Sogar vom Bahnsteig können wir das Hotel sehen. Für die Regionalzüge muss man Plätze vorbuchen. Es werden nicht unbegrenzt Fahrkarten verkauft. Ich buche die Karten über die Trenitalia-App. Allerdings muss man diese Karten nicht entwerten, obwohl ein Scanner für Barcodes sich am Entwerter befindet.

Sie haben in Italien die Abstands- und Hygienemaßnahmen sehr gut in den Zügen umgesetzt: Jeder 2. Platz wird blockiert. Es gibt Regelungen, um Verkehrsströme zu leiten. Türen nur als Eingänge und andere nur als Ausgänge. Und Bodenmarkierungen, die zu den Ausgängen führen. Es klappt im Großen und Ganzen ganz gut. Ich habe es mir chaotischer vorgestellt. Dafür, dass kein Schaffner durchlief, der die Regeln durchsetzt, lief es insgesamt ziemlich gut. Ich finde, dass der RegionalExpress zwischen Darmstadt und Frankfurt in der Rush-Hour sehr viel voller ist.



In Italy you have implemented the distance and hygiene measures very well in the trains: every 2nd seat is blocked. There are regulations to guide traffic flows. Doors only as entrances and others only as exits. And floor markings that lead to the exits. It works pretty well on the whole. I imagined it to be more chaotic. Overall, it went pretty well for not going through a conductor to enforce the rules. I made the experience that the RegionalExpress between Darmstadt and Frankfurt, Germany, is a lot more crowded during rush hour.

The regional line FL5 connects Civitavecchia.

Am Bahnhof Roma S. Pietro steigen wir aus. In Sichtweite zur Kuppel des Petersdoms.

Sondern über das andere Ende des Bahnsteigs zum Ausgang Via Gregorio VII.

Auch hier geht es zum Vatikan.

Bisher sind wir immer an der östlichen Grenze des Vatikans entlang gegangen. Aber heute laufen wir an der westlichen Grenze entlang.

We reach the Vatican Museums. Usually completely overcrowded. Usually, long queues when coming via the western route. Usually full of people inside, but now virtually deserted!



Wir erreichen die Vatikanischen Museen. Normalerweise komplett überfüllt. Normalerweise endlos lange Schlangen, wenn man über die westliche Wegführung kommt. Normalerweise voller Menschen im Inneren, aber heute quasi menschenleer!

Im Museum finden sich Hinweise auf das Vatican by Train-Programm. Leider derzeit ausgesetzt. Wir nehmen an einer Führung teil. Nichts los. Wir hatten Karten für die Vatikanischen Gärten im Anschluss an unsere Kreuzfahrt auf der CELEBRITY CONSTELLATION, die 2020 ausgefallen ist. Wir haben das Geld damals vom Papst wiederbekommen. Nun knüpfen wir daran an, und starten den Tag mit der Tour durch die Vatikanischen Gärten. Man darf hier nur mit der Tour durch die Gärten. Derzeit werden nur 20-40 Gäste durchgeführt und leider nur in Italienisch. Wir haben Glück, weil unsere Führerin Sara uns in Englisch zwischendurch Erläuterungen gibt. Die Führung sollte eigentlich nur eine Stunde dauern und anschließend darf man noch selbständig durch die Museen laufen. Sara nimmt sich jedoch sehr viel Zeit in den Gärten.



You can find references to the Vatican by Train program in the museum. Unfortunately currently suspended. We take part in a guided tour. Nothing is going on. We had tickets for the Vatican Gardens following our canceled cruise on the CELEBRITY CONSTELLATION in 2020. We got the money back from the Pope. Now let us pick up on that and start the day with a tour of the Vatican Gardens. You are only allowed here with a tour of the gardens. Currently, there are only 20-40 guests and unfortunately only in Italian. We are lucky because our guide, Sara, gives us explanations in English in between. The tour should only last an hour, and then you can walk independently through the museums. However, Sara takes a lot of time in the gardens.

Natürlich erleben auch eine schöne Blumenwelt.

But also a lot of fountains: the most beautiful of them is the fountain with the turtles (Nymphaeum of Pope Pius IV's Casino), who swim and sunbathe here.



Aber auch sehr viele Brunnen: der schönste davon ist der Brunnen mit den Schildkröten (Nymphäum des Casino Papst Pius IV.), die hier schwimmen und sich sonnen.

Obwohl wir es nicht schaffen, dieses Mal auf dem Petersplatz entlang zu laufen: wir können sehr schöne Bilder von der Kuppel des Petersdoms machen.



Although we do not manage to walk along St. Peter's Square this time: we can take very nice pictures of the dome of St. Peter's Basilica.

For a few years, I worked for a company that built radio and television transmitters. Radio Vatican is also located here. I had to send parts for the transmitter in Santa Palomba, Italy.



Ich habe für einige Jahr bei einem Unternehmen gearbeitet, dass Sendeanlagen für Hörfunk und Fernsehen gebaut hat. Radio Vatikan hat auch hier seinen Sitz. Für die Sendeanlage in Santa Palomba musste ich Teile versenden.

Ich höre, dass die Kurzwellensendeanlage 2014 stillgelegt wurde.



I hear that they shut down the shortwave transmitter in 2014.

Nevertheless, there is still a specific connection to Radio Vatican. However, I've never heard their program.



Trotzdem besteht noch eine gewisse Verbundenheit zu Radio Vatikan. Obwohl ich deren Programm noch nie gehört habe.

Ich stoße auch auf den Namen des Rundfunkpioniers Marconi. Ein Name, der oft bei meiner Arbeit fiel.



I also come across the name of the radio pioneer Marconi. A name that came up a lot at work.

Often it is gifts from visitors to the Pope that are placed here in the gardens. Or memories of certain ecclesiastical events, such as the miracle of Lourdes.



Oft sind es Geschenke von Besuchern des Papstes, die hier in den Gärten aufgestellt werden. Oder Erinnerungen an bestimmte kirchliche Ereignisse, wie das Wunder von Lourdes.
