Wir konnten endlich unsere Tickets von Lufthansa nutzen: Sie waren ja für Rom - Frankfurt für die Abreise von der CELEBRITY CONSTELLATION aus Dubai. Wir hatten dann aber beschlossen: einen Teil haben wir bei Lufthansa stehen lassen und einen Teil haben wir uns auszahlen lassen. Nach dem die Bundesregierung die Lockerungen verkündet hatte, sind die Preise explodiert. Wir wollten noch verlängern, aber wenn wir zwei Tage länger geblieben wären, hätten wir rund 600 EUR für uns beide draufzahlen müssen - in der Economy Class. So bleiben wir nur einen Tag länger und nehmen für 79 EUR das Upgrade zum Festpreis mit. Der Besuch der Lounge lohnt sich nicht: man darf drinnen nichts essen und trinken. So bekommt man nur etwas Wasser und etwas zu essen mit, wenn man die Lounge verlässt.



We were finally able to use our Lufthansa tickets: You were for Rome - Frankfurt to leave Dubai for the CELEBRITY CONSTELLATION. But then we decided: We went part of it at Lufthansa, and part of it we paid off. After the federal government announced the easing, prices exploded. We wanted to extend it, but if we had stayed two days longer, we would have had to pay around 600 EUR (700 USD) for the two of us - in Economy Class. So we only last one day longer and take the upgrade with us at a fixed price of 79 EUR (2021 - 90 USD). The lounge is not worth visiting: you are not allowed to eat or drink anything inside. So you only get some water and something to eat when you leave the lounge.

Outside I open the bag of bread rolls while we wait for boarding. They used such a fat-free cream cheese: I get the dust lung of a miner.

We have to switch to an exit where bus handling is possible. Unfortunately, Business Class does not have its own bus; we are only the first on the first bus. I am happy about an aircraft with the old paintwork with friendly Lufthansa yellow.



Wir müssen zu einem Ausgang wechseln, bei dem eine Busabfertigung möglich ist. Business Class bekommt keinen eigenen Bus, sondern ist nur als erster im ersten Bus. Kurz vor Darmstadt können wir dann in unser Flugzeug einsteigen. Ich freue mich über eine Maschine mit der alten Lackierung mit freundlichem Lufthansa-Gelb.

Da wir als erste im Bus waren, kommen wir als letzte raus. So genießen wir mal wieder den Aufenthalt auf dem Vorfeld.

And it works well on the outbound flight that our luggage with the priority label arrives early. In addition: with the upgrade at a fixed price, we can take one more suitcase with us.



Und gut klappt auf dem Hinflug, dass unser Gepäck mit Priority-Kennzeichnung auch wirklich früh rauskommt. Außerdem: durch das Upgrade zum Fixpreis dürfen wir einen Koffer jeder mehr mitnehmen.

Zwei Besonderheiten fallen beim Hinflug auf: Wir dürfen uns nicht umsetzen und wir dürfen (außer bei den Notausgangssitzen und in der 1. Reihe) keine Kleidungsstücke in den Gepäckfächern reinlegen: eine Anordnung der italienischen Regierung. Diese wird aber nicht besonders durchgesetzt. Es wird nur beim 1. Bus hingewiesen. Die Gäste im 2. Bus bekommen die Hinweise gar nicht mit und werden auch später nicht gebeten sich wieder so hinzusetzen, wie es auf der Bordkarte steht. Es ist der 1. Tag, an dem bei Lufthansa Onboard Delights eingeführt wird: Essen und Getränke gegen Bezahlung in der Economy Class. Kostenlos gibt es nur eine Flasche Wasser und ein Stück Schokolade. So wie bei Swiss. Aber bei Lufthansa ist sie kleiner und schmeckt nicht.



Two peculiarities stand out on the outward flight: We are not allowed to move. We are not allowed to put any clothing items in the overhead lockers (except for the emergency exit seats and in the first row): an order from the Italian government. However, this is not strictly enforced. They announced it only for the guests on the 1st bus. The guests on the 2nd bus do not even notice the instructions, and they do not ask them to sit down again later as it is on the boarding pass. The first day that Lufthansa introduces Onboard Delights is food and drinks for a fee in Economy Class. There is only a complimentary bottle of water and a piece of chocolate, just like with Swiss. But at Lufthansa, it's smaller and doesn't taste good.

The flight itself is lovely. Unfortunately, we only catch up a little from the delay (just under an hour), and we do not fly in via Civitavecchia, so sadly, I cannot take pictures of ships from above.



Der Flug selbst ist schön. Von der Verspätung (knapp eine Stunde) holen wir nur ein wenig auf. Leider fliegen wir nicht über Civitavecchia ein, so dass ich leider keine Schiffe von oben fotografieren kann.

Für die Einreise nach Italien haben wir die EU Passenger Locator Form ausfüllen müssen. Das wurde auch beim Einchecken in Frankfurt kontrolliert. Wir konnten aber in einem Rutsch den Voraufenthalt, die Kreuzfahrt und den Nachaufenthalt eingeben.

Since we have two previous nights, the test for entry to Italy is no longer valid for embarkation. There is a test center in the arrivals hall in Terminal 3. For 20 EUR, we can do another test here. Only for departing passengers. So you have to go to the registration so that they can change the text. I booked the Digital Health Travel Pass on the airport's homepage. Typically German: we draw a number and wait and wait. Italians who don't pull a number and keep running to the smear are accepted. At some point, we learn: the numbers are only needed so that they have a number to register your name in a list, and with couples, everyone needs a number, even if you have reserved and paid for two people.



Da wir zwei Vorübernachtungen haben, gilt der Test für die Einreise nach Italien nicht mehr für die Einschiffung. In der Ankunftshalle im Terminal 3 befindet sich ein Testzentrum. Für 20 EUR können wir hier auch nochmals einen Test machen. Eigentlich nur für abfliegende Passagiere. Also muss man doch bei der Registrierung vorsprechen, damit sie den Text ändern. Über die Homepage des Flughafens habe ich den Digital Health Travel Pass gebucht. Typisch Deutsch: wir ziehen eine Nummer und warten und warten. Italiener, die sich keine Nummer ziehen und einfach zum Abstrich weiterlaufen werden einfach drangenommen. Irgendwann lernen wir: die Nummern werden nur gebraucht, damit sie eine Nummer haben um in einer Liste deinen Namen zu registrieren und bei Paaren braucht jeder eine Nummer, auch wenn man für zwei Personen reserviert und bezahlt hat.

Zum Thema Digitalisierung... Deutschland ist ja zu diesem Thema schon rückständig. Na gut: ich habe mir einen "Digital Health Travel Pass" etwas anders vorgestellt... Aber wir lernen ja später auf Sizilien: Papyrus ist ja immer noch sehr populär in Italien.

For some time now, I have been booking transfers through NCC Airport. It always works pretty well. I don't have to pay anything in advance, but the driver can only pay in cash. 1-2 days in advance, we will find out the name and telephone number of the driver. So we can inform him very well ourselves that we are late and still have to go to the test. Our driver is waiting with a sign directly outside the terminal. At the moment, you can only exit the airport terminal via one door to the street level, and the drivers all have to wait outside. However, we have to walk over to the parking garages at the train station with our luggage. Group transports are currently not permitted. A private transfer costs only 110.00 EUR (2021) with NCC Airport.



Seit einiger Zeit buche ich die Transfers über NCC Airport. Das klappt immer ziemlich gut. Ich muss nichts im Voraus bezahlen, aber beim Fahrer ist nur noch Barzahlung möglich. 1-2 Tage vorher erfahren wir den Namen und die Telefonnummer des Fahrers. So können wir ihn sehr gut selbst informieren, dass wir verspätet sind und noch zum Test müssen. Unser Fahrer wartet mit Schild direkt draußen vor dem Terminal, da im Moment man das Terminal nur über einen Ausgang zur Straßenebene erreichen kann und die Fahrer alle draußen warten müssen. Wir müssen allerdings mit Gepäck rüber zu den Parkhäusern am Bahnhof laufen. Sammeltransporte sind derzeit nicht zugelassen. Ein Privattransfer kostet aber auch nur 110,00 EUR (2021) mit NCC Airport.

Unser Fahrer Gianluca setzt uns beim Hotel ab. Die Fahrt dauert ca. 45 Minuten.

We stay at the Hotel De La Ville. Just two minutes from the Civitavecchia train station. In between would be Hertz. But we have not found any Hertz 369 offers since their bankruptcy. It was cheaper with NCC Airport than driving yourself. The staff is nice and friendly. It is clean, but the hotel has seen better days. There are still classic hotel keys. The fact that we want to check out at 11:30 hrs is not a problem. We have embarkation at 12:20 hrs. We can walk to everything in Civitavecchia.



Wir übernachten im Hotel De La Ville. Direkt zwei Minuten neben dem Bahnhof Civitavecchia. Dazwischen wäre noch Hertz. Aber seit ihrer Insolvenz finden wir keine Hertz 369-Angebote mehr. So war es mit NCC Airport günstiger als selbst zu fahren. Die Mitarbeiter sind nett und freundlich. Es ist sauber, aber das Hotel hat schon mal bessere Tage gesehen. Es gibt noch klassische Hotelschlüssel. Dass wir um 11:30 Uhr auschecken wollen, stellt kein Problem dar. Wir haben Einschiffung um 12:20 Uhr. Wir können in Civitavecchia alles fußläufig erreichen.

Für eine oder zwei Vorübernachtungen ist es o.k.. Es gibt drei Probleme: die Klimaanlage läuft nicht so, wie sie sollte. Zum Glück ist es nicht heiß genug und unsere Kleidung hat wohl die Schokolade für die Crew etwas isoliert. Die Stromversorgung ist auch nicht mehr zeitgemäß. Z. T. gibt es noch historische Steckdosen aus der Römerzeit: Typ L. Da passt kein Euro-Flachstecker rein und auch sämtliche internationale Adapter, die wir haben gehen da nicht rein. Und das Hotel besitzt nur einen Adapter für alle Gäste! Und z. T. muss das Licht eingeschaltet bleiben, damit es Strom gibt.



It is okay for a pre-cruise night or two. There are three problems: the air conditioning is not working as it should. Fortunately, it is not hot enough, and our clothes must have insulated the chocolate a bit for the crew. The power supply is also no longer up-to-date. Sometimes there are still historical sockets from ancient Roman times: Type L. No flat Euro plug fits in there, and all international adapters that we have do not go in there. And the hotel only has one adapter for all guests! And sometimes the light has to stay switched on so that there is electricity.

Despite all the minor problems: a paradise for ship spotters. Since we ordered separate beds, we get to room 301 with a side sea view.



Trotz allem kleiner Probleme: für Shipspotter ein Paradies. Da wir getrennte Betten bestellt haben, bekommen wir Zimmer 301 mit seitlichem Meerblick.

The following ships are in town: CARNIVAL VALOR, COSTA DELIZIOSA, COSTA FAVOLOSA, COSTA FIRENZE, COSTA FORTUNA, COSTA PACIFICA, MSC FANTASIA, NORWEGIAN EPIC, SEVEN SEAS SPLENDOR and the former PACIFIC PRINCESS, now the ONWARD and now AZAMARA. NORWEGIAN EPIC is unfortunately at the end of the pier. You can only photograph it very well when you are on a cruise ship yourself at Pier 25. I assume that my mug shot is already hanging everywhere after the last time I unceremoniously climbed the fire escape at the administration building of the port authorities. But since there are soldiers everywhere to guard the port facilities, I only use official channels. Since there is no harbor tours in Civitavecchia, I could theoretically take the ferry to Sardinia. But to spend six hours on the ferry and come back later overnight: my love for NORWEGIAN EPIC, SEVEN SEAS SPLENDOR, and COSTA FIRENZE does not go that far. If I am lucky, I will be able to do it when I leave the port.

NORWEGIAN EPIC liegt leider am Ende der Mole. Nur wenn man selbst mit einem Kreuzfahrtschiff am Pier 25 liegt, kann man das sehr gut fotografieren. Ich gehe davon aus, dass mein Fahndungsfoto eh schon überall hängt, nachdem ich das letzte Mal kurzerhand die Feuertreppe am Verwaltungsgebäude der Hafenbehörden raufgeklettert bin. Aber da überall Militär steht, um die Hafenanlagen zu bewachen, bewege ich mich mich ausschließlich auf offiziellen Wegen. Da es in Civitavecchia keine Hafenrundfahrten gibt, könnte ich theoretisch mit der Fähre nach Sardinien fahren. Aber sechs Stunden auf der Fähre zu verbringen und später über Nacht wieder zurückzukommen: soweit geht meine Liebe zu NORWEGIAN EPIC, SEVEN SEAS SPLENDOR und COSTA FIRENZE nicht. Wenn ich Glück habe, bekomme ich es ja noch beim Auslaufen das noch hin.

Wir gehen spazieren, natürlich um uns zu bewegen und natürlich meine Schiffe zu fotografieren. So sehen wir, dass wir ein Stück auf der Vorderseite der Mole spazieren gehen können, die sehr gerne von Läufern (die allerdings jedes Schlagloch wohl schon kennen und daher etwas komisch daherlaufen) und Anglern benutzt werden. In die Festung Michelangelo darf man noch nicht wieder aber zumindest in den Park davor. Wir fallen auf, weil wir uns doch konsequenter an die Maskenregelung im Freien halten, als manche Einheimische. Nur wenn wir so ganz alleine für uns sind und weit und breit niemand zu sehen ist, nehmen wir sie auch mal ab.



We go for a walk, of course, to move and take pictures of my ships. So we see that we can walk a bit on the front of the pier, which is very popular with runners (who probably already know every pothole and therefore run a bit strange) and anglers. You are not allowed to go back into the Michelangelo Fortress yet. But at least in the park in front of it. We stand out because we adhere to the mask regulations more consistently than some locals. Kurz danach wurde die OCEAN PRINCESS als SIRENA verkauft. Auf ihr hätten wir eine Fahrt nach Kuba gehabt, aber wegen der Entscheidung der damaligen US-Regierung, fand diese Fahrt nicht statt. Oceania hat nicht adäquat reagiert und wir haben kein dringendes Bedürfnis festzustellen, ob nun Oceania das Geld Wert ist.



The former PACIFIC PRINCESS. Sister of the former OCEAN PRINCESS. We know her from our trips OCEAN PRINCESS 2010 and OCEAN PRINCESS 2015. We have very fond memories of her. Shortly afterward, the OCEAN PRINCESS was sold as SIRENA. On it, we would have had a trip to Cuba, but because of the US government's decision at the time, this trip did not take place. Oceania has not responded adequately, and we have no pressing need to determine whether Oceania is now worth the money.

And future AZAMARA ONWARD. The hotel director Elisabeth of AZAMARA PURSUIT 2019, was here to take over, but unfortunately, she is gone again. I would have loved to have taken a picture of her and the captain at the bow at the front of the boat: You as Rose de Witt Bukater (Kate Winslet) and the captain as Jack Dawson (Leonardo di Caprio) in TITANIC. Too bad.



Und künftige AZAMARA ONWARD. Kürzlich war wohl hier zur Übernahme die Hoteldirektorin Elisabeth der AZAMARA PURSUIT 2019 hier, aber leider ist sie wieder weg. Ich hätte doch zu gerne bei der Ausfahrt ein Bild von ihr und dem Kapitän vorne am Bug gemacht: Sie als Rose de Witt Bukater (Kate Winslet) und der Kapitän als Jack Dawson (Leonardo di Caprio) in TITANIC. Schade.

We need a break. It is too hot for a cappuccino. There is granita that tastes like a cherry slush puppy.



Wir brauchen eine Pause. Für einen Cappuccino ist es zu heiß. Es gibt Granita, der nach Kirsch-Slush-Puppy schmeckt.

Ganz schön heftig. Italien war auch schon mal billiger. Dabei sind noch nicht mal Überseetouristen in Civitavecchia da, die jeden Preis zahlen. Das merkt man auch im Stadtbild: die ganzen Kreuzfahrer fehlen.



Pretty hard. Italy has also been cheaper. And yet there are not even overseas tourists in Civitavecchia who pay any price. You can see that in the cityscape: all the cruisers are missing.

Despite everything: it just felt good to sit outside and be served.



Trotz allem: es tat einfach mal wieder gut, draußen zu sitzen und sich bedienen zu lassen.

Es ist allerdings nicht klar, ob es überhaupt einen öffentlichen Verkehr innerhalb des Hafens gibt, wie wir ihn gekannt haben.

Later we also see the reason: there is currently no longer any public transport within the port. The cruiser bus terminal is now the city's vaccination center. Unfortunately, no foreigners who are non-residents in Italy will get vaccinated. Too bad. To be on the safe side, we have all vaccination documents with us.



Später sehen wir auch den Grund: einen öffentlichen Verkehr innerhalb des Hafens gibt es derzeit nicht mehr. Der Busbahnhof für Kreuzfahrer ist jetzt das Impfzentrum der Stadt. Leider werden keine Ausländer geimpft, die keinen Wohnsitz in Italien haben. Schade. Sicherheitshalber haben wir alle Impfunterlagen mit.

Damals vor der Einschiffung auf der NORWEGIAN JADE 2014 (1): wir waren hungrig und verzweifelt. Damals haben wir in La Bomboniera gegessen: wir mussten Zeit zum Nachdenken gewinnen, weil Avis keinen Briefkasten für die Schlüsselrückgabe hatte und erst wieder nach Einschiffung wieder aufmachte. Wir haben dort sehr lecker frisch gegrillten Fisch gegessen. Der war unvergesslich. Und Familie Bussu hat uns geholfen, dass Avis den Schlüssel zurückbekam. Dafür haben sie unseren Respekt und Loyalität verdient. Immer wenn wir in Civitavecchia einschiffen und es unsere Zeit erlaubt, gehen wir hier essen. Zuletzt vor der ALLURE OF THE SEAS 2015. Ich bekomme echte Probleme mit dem Essen: ich kann mich nicht entscheiden: Soll ich Scampis oder Garnelen nehmen. Kurzerhand bieten sie mir an, dass ich Halb und Halb nehmen soll. Und wenig später entdecke ich auf dem offenen Feuer, wie mein Essen zubereitet wird. Nun bekomme ich weitere Probleme - allerdings erst später: wie erkläre ich später auf dem Schiff, dass ich meine Scampis bzw. Garnelen genauso haben will im La Bomboniera? So lecker haben sie es später an Bord nicht mehr hinbekommen. Aber das nächste Mal habe ich mir fest vorgenommen: es muss dann ein Steak sein! Das wir auf dem Grill bestimmt richtig Klasse und dazu ein Scampi? Ein perfektes Surf und Turf. Wir freuen uns immer wieder, wenn wir hier essen können. Deswegen haben wir auch Glück, dass wir nicht schon im März da waren: da hätten wir hier nicht zu Abend essen dürfen. Nun ist es zwar draußen ziemlich kühl und windig, aber es tat trotzdem sehr gut, mal wieder etwas Leckeres direkt frisch aus dem Ofen direkt auf dem Teller zu bekommen und einfach sofort zu genießen: ohne dass es nachgart und warmgehalten wird. Ohne Kondenswasser. Das Leben ist zurück. Bis zum nächsten Mal, Familie Bussu!

And a little later, I discover how my food is prepared on the open fire. Now I get more problems - but only later: how do I explain later on the ship that I want my scampi or prawns in the same way at La Bomboniera? They didn't get it that tasty later on board. But the next time I have decided: it has to be a steak! That we are on the grill really class and a scampi? A perfect surf and turf. We are always happy when we can eat here. That's why we're lucky that we weren't there in March: we shouldn't have had dinner here. Now it's pretty cool and windy outside, but it was still delicious to have something delicious straight out of the oven on your plate and enjoy it straight away: without having to cook and keep it warm and without condensation.
