Tag/Day 2.2 auf der/on MSC WORLD EUROPA in Marseille, France

Heute lerne ich das Frühstücksangebot am Pizza und Burgerstand kennen. Später gucke ich auch mal das Tagesangebot mir an. Das macht schon einen guten Eindruck.



Today, I got to know the breakfast offerings at the pizza and burger stand. Later, I'll take a look at the daily offerings. That makes a good impression.

After we discovered that there was also a breakfast offer (for an additional fee) in the Raj Polo, and we didn't feel like the buffet or the main restaurant, we tried it. In addition to tea, we get delicious quiche and breakfast pastries. We feel very comfortable with Joseph John, Shennoy, and Aniket. It's a beautiful oasis of class and peace.



Nach dem wir erfahren waren, dass es auch ein Frühstücksangebot (gegen Zuzahlung) im Raj Polo gibt, und wir keine Lust auf Büffet oder Hauptrestaurant haben, probieren wir es aus. Wir bekommen neben Tee leckere Quiche und Frühstücksgebäck. Wir fühlen uns bei Joseph John, Shennoy und Aniket sehr wohl. Es ist eine schöne Oase mit Klasse und Ruhe.

Wir kommen bei Jean Philippe vorbei und Novi spricht uns an, dass sie uns schon vermisst und bietet uns sofort an, etwas für uns herzurichten. Allerdings ist es so, dass uns der Kaffee im Coffee Emporium besser schmeckt. Wir machen auf jeden Fall ein gemeinsames Selfie, denn uns hat sie immer sehr zuvorkommend bedient.

Wir gehen ins Coffee Emporium. Im Gegensatz zu Jean-Philippe können wir hier die Zubereitungsart und die Bohnensorte auswählen. Außerdem können wir etwas über Aromen lernen. Wenn wir beispielsweise zu einer Weinprobe gehen und dann der Sommelier erklärt, dass das nach Drachenfrucht, Schweinshaxe, Farn und Erde schmeckt, dann weiß ich immer nicht, was er meint. Hier sind die einzelnen Aromen sehr gut präsentiert und wir können sehr gut die Beschreibungen der Aromen nachvollziehen. Bruno ist ganz begeistert er kann den Kaffee in einem japanischen Hario V60-Filter bestellen und verschafft sich so den Respekt des Teams als Kaffeekenner. Ich bin es nicht: ich trinke meine Kaffee-Kaltgetränke, meinen Einspänner, und ein Nescafé 3 in 1. Also wir damals nach der MSC MERAVIGLIA 2017 in Villach bei der Kaffeerösterei La Mattina waren, bekam nur Bruno einen Probe und zu mir meinte der Röster bloß zu mir: "Bei Ihnen macht es keinen Sinn!" Wir haben in Deutschland Melitta Keramikfilter und Melitta-Filtertüten - wozu braucht man einen japanischen Kaffeefilter. Trinkt man in Japan nicht mehr Tee als Kaffee? Akshay und Audrey machen das perfekt. Was uns weniger gefallen hat: Mitreisende, die ihre nackten Füße auf die Stühle legen. Ich finde das weder schön seine Fußsohlen mir anzugucken, noch mag ich die Vorstellung mich als nächster auf den Stuhl setzen zu müssen. Ich hatte darum gebeten, dass man bitte das Housekeeping ruft, nach dem der Gast weg war. Sie haben aber direkt den Stuhl saubergemacht. Einer auf Facebook meinte, dass man sich ja nur mit dem Gesäß draufsetzt. Ich möchte auch den Fußpilz anderer Leute auch nicht auf meinem Arsch haben - auch nicht auf meiner Hose. Komisch: ist barfuß modern: der 2. Fall nach der QUEEN ELIZABETH 2023.

It's not me: I drink my cold coffee, Einspänner (Austrian coffee specialty with whipped cream), and Nescafé 3 in 1. When we were at the coffee roaster La Mattina in Villach, Austria, after the MSC MERAVIGLIA 2017, only Bruno got a sample, and the roaster just said yes to me: "It doesn't make sense to you!" In Germany, we have Melitta ceramic filters and Melitta filter bags - why do you need a Japanese coffee filter? Don't people drink more tea than coffee in Japan? Akshay and Audrey do it perfectly. We didn't like fellow travelers putting their bare feet on the chairs. I don't find it pleasant to look at the soles of his feet, nor do I like the idea of having to sit on the chair next. I had asked that they please call housekeeping after the guest had left. But they cleaned the chair straight away. Someone on Facebook said that you only sit on it with your buttocks. I also don't want other people's athlete's foot on my ass - nor my pants. Funny: barefoot is modern: the 2nd case after QUEEN ELIZABETH 2023.

Wir gehen zumindest heute Mal ins Hexagon Hauptrestaurant. Ich bekomme meinen grünen Apfelsaft, den es nur bei MSC gibt. Das Essen ist ganz gut. Ich wollte zwar nur eine Mini-Portion Spaghetti Alio e Olio, aber das war mal wieder eine Riesenportion. Ich will es mal so formulieren: die Kompetenz für indisches Essen ist bei den Gesellschaft größer, die eine koloniale Vergangenheit mit Indien verbindet. Es fehlt z.B. die ganzen Chutneys oder Naan-Brot. Dann hat mich mal interessiert, wie das mit den Essensmöglichkeiten für Aurea-Gäste ist.



Today, we're going to the Hexagon main restaurant. I get my green apple juice, which is only available from MSC. The food is quite good. Das Parken am Terminal ist nicht uninteressant, speziell bei längeren Fahrten: 14 EUR pro 24 Stunden (2023) - bis 30 Tage zahlt man nur 140 EUR. Es ist ja schon mit zwei Zugängen zum Kreuzfahrtterminal nicht schlecht abgesichert. Es gibt auch überdachte Plätze.

Continue another 500 m to the bus stop 35T. There is a charge for this, but it doesn't stop at the Joliette terminus. It costs 2 EUR (2023) from the bus driver. You can also buy a return ticket for 3.50 EUR (2023) or a 24-hour ticket for 5.20 EUR (2023) if you want to travel further in Marseille. Wir haben ja eh nichts zu tun und laufen bis zur Schnellstraßenbrücke. Vor dem Terminal fährt der MSC Shuttle für 17 EUR (2023) ab. Wenn man 1 km läuft, dann kommt man zu der Haltestelle vom kostenlosen Shuttle. Allerdings haben wir auch schon mal Tage erwischt, an denen er nicht fährt, wie z. B. nach der Reise auf der MSC POESIA 2022. Ich habe bei der Pforte rumgefragt, aber er soll normalerweise immer fahren, aber wann er fährt und wann mal nicht, kann mir keiner erklären. Der QR-Code führt einen leider nicht weiter, um die Betriebstage herauszufinden. Im Moment sind drei Schiffe im Hafen: ich hätte keine Lust auf einen Bus zu warten. Weiter geht es nochmals 500 m bis zur Haltestelle des Busses 35T. Der ist kostenpflichtig, hält aber nicht bis zur Endstelle Joliette. Es kostet 2 EUR (2023) beim Busfahrer. Man kann auch am eine Rückfahrkarte für 3,50 EUR (2023) oder 24-Stunden-Karte für 5,20 EUR (2023) kaufen, wenn man noch weiter in Marseille fahren will. Am Fahrplan muss man jedoch zwischen roten und blauen Betriebstagen unterscheiden. Je nach Anzahl der Schiffe im Hafen, fährt er im 15- oder 20-Minuten-Takt. Egal ob man mit dem kostenlosen Shuttle oder dem Bus 35T fährt: man muss auf jeden Fall vor dem Zugang aussteigen, wenn man zurückkommt, weil am Seitentor eine Kartenkontrolle stattfindet. Wir gehen nochmals 500 m weiter bis zur Brücke. Dort fährt der Bus 35 durchgehend. Allerdings hält er überall.

Nach dem Spaziergang gönnen wir uns Tea-Time im Raj Polo. Eigentlich nur "Tea for Two"... aber es kommt soviel, dass eine vierköpfige Familie davon satt geworden wäre. Und Anikat kommt immer wieder und fragt nach, ob er uns noch etwas bringen soll: Einen Rollstuhl und eine Tupperdose. Das war ein richtig schöner Nachmittag draußen auf der Terrasse. Schön ruhig, warm, super Service und Tea-Time. Besser als Stress in Marseille. Wir sind ja im September 2024 wieder da mit der AZAMARA QUEST.



After the walk, we treated ourselves to tea time at Raj Polo. It's just "Tea for Two",... but there's so much that a family of four would have had enough. And Anikat keeps coming and asking if he should bring us something else: a wheelchair and a Tupperware container. That was a lovely afternoon outside on the terrace. Excellent and quiet, warm, great service and tea time. Better than stress in Marseille. We'll be back in September 2024 on AZAMARA QUEST.

We are looking forward to the evening at Butcher's Cut. It is one of the best steakhouses on the high seas. We have already been here, MSC MERAVIGLIA 2017 and MSC SEASIDE 2021. On the MSC EUROBIA 2023, there is Le Grill instead of Butcher's Cut. So far, we have experienced top-class gastronomy in all three restaurants: everything was perfect: the service and the food. This is strange: a table where you look against a wall. Who came up with this idea? This time, we were unlucky: as Diamond guests, we only got a tasting menu, but there was no New York strip steak, and I was allowed to choose between plaque and cholera. I ordered another steak with a 50% discount or chose something from the three remaining offers. There is no other alternative. The waiter didn't allow himself to be negotiated with, and there was no supervisor available (she was probably intensively or exclusively occupied with reservations in French) with whom one could have spoken. I'm surprised they ran out of meat in the middle of Europe. I am told that the delivery from Great Britain has failed. I asked if they shipped with MSC. This is affirmed. They should have shipped with us ("competition" of the MSC). Since Brexit, this supply chain has not been free of risk. Also, it is a bit strange: other guests get their water in an ice bucket, and we get the bottle slammed on the table. The starters were delicious. But unfortunately, I couldn't do anything with the filet mignon. It was juicy and grilled perfectly, too. It just didn't taste good. I love rib-eye steak with fat eye and sirloin steak with fat edge. Then filet mignon only works if you have someone who can prepare it to taste like something. And still, no supervisor there to notice that I ate maybe 1/4. Usually, it is a red flag that something is wrong. After the supervisor just wanted to investigate what happened without apologizing (for her absence or the circumstances), I called in her boss, Alex. I showed him the picture of Carlos and Nitesh on my iPhone, who gave us excellent service on MSC EURIBIA 2023. When I asked if they were also on board, he knew what I was getting at. One of them was on board and recently went on vacation. Alex opened the MSC EURIBIA 2023. Something can always happen, depending on how you solve a problem. His problem was me - an unhappy customer. I explained to him how great it was yesterday in La Pescaderia, and he immediately suggested that he accompany me there. They should prepare something for us, with a bottle of wine, etc. What he couldn't have known: since the NORWEGIAN JADE In 2014 (2), I have a smaller stomach, and if the remaining space in my stomach is filled with "junk," then, unfortunately, I can no longer absorb anything. He found a solution that suited me very well because he is also responsible for La Pescaderia, and I liked it there so much. Stefan knows how to deal with friends, even if something has gone wrong. He can be sure he won't be able to get rid of me in the specialty restaurants on MSC ships... he could have a Butcher's Cut installed on the MSC ARMONIA by 2025. But I also remembered that I must bring my Tupperware for the chimichurri. I always wanted to give samples to Cunard, Holland America, and Princess: they should prepare it the same way for me to make me 115% (100% plus 15% service charge) happy. They need a chimichurri like this on offer.



Wir freuen uns auf den Abend im Butcher's Cut. Für mich einer der besten Steakhäuser auf hoher See. Wir waren schon hier MSC MERAVIGLIA 2017, MSC SEASIDE 2021. Auf der MSC EUROBIA 2023 gibt statt Butcher's Cut Le Grill. In allen drei Restaurants haben wir bisher Spitzengastronomie erlebt: es stimmte alles: der Service und das Essen. Etwas komisch ist das hier schon: ein Tisch bei dem man gegen eine Wand schaut. Wer ist bloß auf diese Idee gekommen. Dieses Mal hatten wir Pech: wir bekommen als Diamond-Gäste ja nur ein Degustations-Menü, aber es gab kein New York Strip Steak und ich durfte zwischen Pest und Cholera aussuchen: ich bestelle mit 50% Rabatt ein anderes Steak oder ich wähle etwas aus den drei verbliebenen Angeboten etwas aus. Es gibt keine andere Alternative. Der Kellner ließ mit sich nicht verhandeln und es stand auch kein Supervior bereit (sie war wohl intensiv bzw. exklusiv mit Reservierungen auf Französisch beschäftigt), mit dem man hätte sprechen können. Ich wundere mich darüber, dass denen mitten in Europa das Fleisch ausgegangen ist. Mir wird erklärt, dass die Lieferung aus Großbritannien ausgeblieben ist. Ich frage nach ob sie mit MSC verschifft haben. Das wird bejaht. Ich sage, dass sie hätten mit uns ("Konkurrenz" der MSC) verschiffen lassen sollen. Seit dem Brexit ist ja diese Lieferkette nicht frei von Risiko. Auch etwas merkwürdig: andere Gäste bekommen ihr Wasser in einem Eiskübel und wir bekommen die Flasche auf dem Tisch geknallt. Die Vorspeisen war sehr gut. Aber mit dem Filet Mignon konnte ich leider gar nichts anfangen. Es war saftig und auch perfekt gegrillt. Es schmeckte bloß nicht. Ich liebe Rib-Eye-Steak mit Fettauge und ersatzweise Rumpsteak mit Fettrand. Dann funktioniert Filet Mignon nur dann, wenn du auch jemand hast, der es so zubereiten kann, dass es nach etwas schmeckt. Und immer noch kein Supervisor da, dem es auffällt, dass ich vielleicht 1/4 gegessen habe. Normalerweise ein Alarmsignal, dass etwas nicht stimmt. Nach dem der Supervisor auch nur recherchieren wollte, was passiert ist, ohne sich zu entschuldigen (für ihre Abwesenheit bzw. für die Umstände), lasse ich mir doch ihren Chef kommen: Alex. Dem zeige ich das Bild auf meinem iPhone von Carlos und Nitesh, die uns auf der MSC EURIBIA 2023 spitzenmäßig bedient haben. Als ich gefragt, ob sie auch an Bord waren, wusste er schon worauf ich hinaus wollte. Einer von beiden war wohl tatsächlich an Bord und hat vor kurzem sich in seinen Urlaub verabschiedet. Alex hat die MSC EURIBIA 2023 eröffnet. Es kann immer etwas passieren, aber es kommt immer darauf an, wie man ein Problem löst. Sein Problem war ich - ein unzufriedener Kunde. Ich erkläre ihm, wie toll es gestern in La Pescaderia war und er schlägt mir sofort vor, dass er mich dahin begleitet und sie uns noch etwas zubereiten sollten, mit einer Flasche Wein usw. usw. Was er nicht wissen konnte: seit der NORWEGIAN JADE 2014 (2) habe ich einen kleineren Magen und wenn der verbliebene Platz im Magen mit "Schrott" gefüllt ist, dann kann ich leider nichts mehr aufnehmen. Weil er auch für La Pescaderia zuständig ist und mir es so gut dort gefallen hat, hat er eine Lösung gefunden, die mir sehr entgegen kam. Stefan weiß, wie man mit Freunden umgeht, auch wenn mal etwas schiefgegangen ist. Er kann sich sehr sicher sein... mich wird er in den Spezialitätenrestaurants von MSC-Schiffen nicht wieder los... vielleicht kann er ja bis 2025 ein Butcher's Cut in die MSC ARMONIA noch einbauen lassen. Ich habe aber auch wieder vergessen meine Tupperdosen mitzubringen: für die Chimicurri. Da wollte ich immer mal Proben bei Cunard, Holland America und Princess mitgeben: das sollen sie für mich genauso zubereiten, um mich 115% (100% plus 15% Service Charge) glücklich zu machen. Denen fehlt so eine Chimicurri im Angebot.

Wir gehen in die Speakeasy Bar. Es war fantastisch. Sie hatten einen so leckeren alkoholfreien Cocktail mit alkoholfreiem Gin und Sekt. Bisher konnte ich mit alkoholfreiem Sekt absolut nichts anfangen. Aber hier schmeckt der Cocktail so lecker. Ich würde vermutlich vom Eiskaffee auf diesen Cocktail umsteigen. Die Atmosphäre ist sehr schön, wieder haben wir eine Oase auf dem riesigen Schiff erwischt. Uns betreut ein richtig nettes Team. Arnikat hat uns schon gesagt, dass wir uns an einer sehr netten Kollegen halten sollen. Aber wir dürfen ihre Namen nicht notieren. Sie tragen auch alle keine Namensschilder. Nicht nur mit der Bar, sondern auch mit der Unterhaltung setzt MSC neue Maßstäbe. Die Rolle Pearl, die von Valentina gespielt wird, passt hervorragend in die Atmosphäre - so wie bei "Manche mögen's heiß" (mit Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon) und "Der Clou" (mit Paul Newman und Robert Redford). Es macht mir immer mehr Spaß mit MSC unterwegs zu sein. Das Schmuddel-Billig-Image hat es auf jeden Fall mit dem Angebot abgelegt.



We go to the Speakeasy Bar. It was fantastic. They had such a delicious non-alcoholic cocktail with non-alcoholic gin and sparkling wine. Up until now, I couldn't do anything with non-alcoholic sparkling wine. But here, the cocktail tastes so delicious. I would switch from iced coffee to this cocktail. The atmosphere was very nice, and once again, we caught an oasis on the vast ship. An excellent team looks after us. Arnikat has already told us we should stick with a lovely colleague. But we are not allowed to write down their names. None of them wear name tags either. MSC sets new standards not only with the bar but also with the entertainment. The role of Pearl, played by Valentina, fits perfectly into the atmosphere - as in "Some Like It Hot" (with Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon) and "The Sting" (with Paul Newman and Robert Redford). I'm having more and more fun traveling with MSC. The offer has shed the dingy, cheap image.

We have tickets to the show "A Night at Broadway". Finally, like it was at the MSC MERAVIGLIA 2017 again, it was a show with the taste of Las Vegas. However, MSC's DNA can no longer be eliminated: rope artists, jugglers, and can-cans are incorporated into the show. There's "Think of me!" from "The Phantom of the Opera". It is my favorite piece from the musical. I close my eyes: Is Sarah Brightman singing the role of Christine on stage? That sounds even nicer than Sarah Brightman. Ultimately, I'm driven wild again: "You Can't Stop the Beat" from "Hairspray". I'm already so happy - there can't be any improvement tonight.



Wir haben Karten für die Show "A Night at Broadway". Endlich wieder wie auf der MSC MERAVIGLIA 2017: Eine Show nach Las Vegas-Geschmack. Jedoch die DNS von MSC lässt sich wohl nicht mehr eleminieren: in die Show eingebaut werden Seilartisten, Jongleure und Can-Can. Es gibt "Denk an mich!" aus "Das Phantom der Oper". Es ist zufällig mein Lieblingsstück aus dem Musical. Ich schließe die Augen: Singt Sarah Brightman die Rolle der Christine auf der Bühne? Das klingt sogar noch schöner als von Sarah Brightman. Am Schluss werde ich wieder wild gemacht: "You can't stop the Beat" aus "Hairspray". Ich bin schon so glücklich - eigentlich kann es eine Steigerung heute Abend nicht mehr geben.

Zufällig treffef ich Hotel General Manager Neven und Director of Hotel Services Aniello. Ich spreche sie an, und sie denken vermutlich: noch eine Beschwerde. Aber ich bin absolut begeistert und teile meine Meinung über das Schiff mit Ihnen. Als ich zu Hause bin, lasse ich alle Bilder der Selfies ausdrucken und schicke es an den Hafenagenten in Genua und schreibe im Brief, dass es die Mitarbeiter sind, an die mich gerne erinnere. Weil ich aber ein MSC Logo auf meinem Polo-Shirt habe, werden wir ständig unterbrochen, und ich werde ständig etwas gefragt. Nie wieder MSC Logo-Shirts bei MSC.



I met Hotel General Manager Neven and Director of Hotel Services Aniello by chance. I talked to them, and they are probably thinking of another complaint. This morning at 4:00 hrs. I took photos in the Panorama Lounge. I assumed I would be there alone. Instead, a rehearsal takes place there. The dancers and singers wave to me in a friendly manner. That makes me curious about their show. I checked: The show is called "Let's Get Loud" - after the song by Jennifer Lopez. I'm not the biggest fan of Latin rock. Ricky Martin, Shakira, Gloria Estefan, and Shania Twain are also on my iPhone. I listen to it occasionally, but it probably wouldn't last an hour. But there was so much energy, colors, rhythm, and joy brought to the stage that I couldn't even close my mouth. I mistakenly got a Bloody Mary instead of a Virgin Mary, but the show fascinates me so much that I'd rather die of thirst than give up for a minute and run to the bar. As I leave, I feel fully charged!



Heute Morgen um 04:00 Uhr habe ich in der Panorama Lounge fotografiert. Ich nahm an, dass ich alleine dort sein würde. Stattdessen findet dort eine Probe statt. Die Tänzer und Sänger winken mir freundlich zu. Das macht mich neugierig auf deren Show. Ich gucke nach: Die Show heißt "Let's get Loud" - nach dem Lied von Jennifer Lopez. Ich bin nicht der größte Freund von Latin Rock. Ricky Martin, Shakira, Gloria Estefan, Shania Twain sind auch auf meinem iPhone. Ich höre es zwischendurch, aber eine Stunde würde ich es vermutlich nicht aushalten. Aber hier wurde soviel Energie, Farben, Rythmus, Freude auf Bühne gebracht, dass ich den Mund gar nicht zubekommen habe. Ich habe irrtümlich eine Bloody Mary, statt Virgin Mary bekommen: aber die Show fasziniert mich so sehr, dass ich lieber verdurste, als eine Minute zu verzichten und zur Bar zu laufen. Als ich gehe, fühle ich mich vollständig geladen!

Ich gehe noch zum Midnight Büffet. Etwas, was es bei vielen anderen schon gar nicht mehr gibt. Auch die Pizzeria, die bis 02:00 Uhr nachts geöffnet hat. Ich nehme auch noch eine Kleinigkeit. Ein toller Tag geht zu Ende.
